My Walther Sportmodell

I posted earlier about my Walther Sportmodell that I acquired in 1988, and the condition of the stock. I'm wondering if anyone has a picture of what it should look like complete. I'm also wondering if this stock can be saved given the very good condition of the rifle. Tac here it is as I promised you and anyones help would be appreciated.

Earl has photos of the Walther rifles on his website:

Walther Hunting Rifles

For whatever reason, I don't see a photo of the Sportmodell, but I'd send him a note and ask. Or, you can get a copy of Manfred Kersten's "Walther: A German Legend." Edward R. Hamilton ws selling it a couple of years ago for about $30 (it's normally $85).

Have you taken it to a competent gunsmith for an opinion?

Your stock has been substantially shortened at the fore end area, and has also been altered in the pistol grip. To add insult to injury, someone has "filled" the finger grooves in the fore end. Sadly, the rifle has also been re-blued to a most Un-Walther looking finish. I should think its value is now just as a shooter. These rifles are usually tack drivers. I'll see if I can post a photo of an unmodified Sportmodell V stock. Good luck. KK
