"Kal.221.f.B" ?

We're in possession of a Carl Walther Ulm/Do. Sportwaffenfabrik (stamped on the receiver in the area under the rear sight). Also on the reeiver is the flying eagle followed by the letter "z", what I assume to be the serial number 79163 with "MADE IN GERMANY" stamped below. The barrel is stamped "Kal.221.f.B" followed by the flying eagle, the letter "z", then 67.
What's throwing me a curve is the chamber/bolt is designed for a rimfire. No way is this thing going to chamber a .221 Fireball although that would be nice. Anybody have an idea what's going on here?

Your caliber designation " 22 l.f.b." is shorthand for "lang fur buchsen" or (in English) 22 Long Rifle. Your rifle is therefore a rimfire which fires the ubiquitous 22 LR. BTW, the barrel marking is a "Crown N" (not Z) and indicates manufacture after 1938. KK

Thanks Kleikaliber! Being new to the forum, it's nice to see the expertise to be found here. Is there anything we should know about this rifle? When was it manufactured? What is it's value? You may note in the picture that there was a rectangular place chiseled out in fore stock that has four small what appear to be nail/screw holes in the corners. We assume some sort of presentation plaque was once affixed there. It appears mechanically sound but we have yet to shoot it.

Without seeing all the markings on the rifle it's impossible to be sure, but my best guess is this rifle was made between 1955-1965, and is a KKM (Klein Kaliber Match) or UIT rifle. Only a qualified gunsmith can determine its safety, but personally, I would not hesitate to shoot it after checking the bore and breech bolt. Best results generally come with Eley Tenex or RWS R50. These old German rifles prefer top quality German ammunition. Value is always exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it. Search for similar sales on the auction sites for approximate value. Nice rifle! KK

I own an identical rifle sn 7871x, and was told it is a KK UIT Special. I assumed that the 67 meant the year of production. Very accurate with good ammunition.

I just picked up one of these rifles for $450. Walther UIT Match Rifle .22LR Cal : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com It is in better condition than was described. It is dated 1969. Is there any further data on these or another website that has other data?

Thanks,
AJ
