Walther KKJ info by serial #

I am getting a rimfire KKJ and am awaiting receipt of the rifle. All I know is that it is an older rifle with the single trigger and the serial range of 27xxx, no year marked behind the eagle and N proof mark.

Does anybody here have an early rifle marked with the year? All I found is a 1965 in the 56xxx range.

Any help will be appreciated!

Wish I had one for comparison's sake; heck, wish I had a dozen.

We don't seem to have a great many Walther rifle owners on the forum, for whatever reason. You might consider writing directly to Walther for the information you seek:

Email: CONTACT NOW : CARL WALTHER, GmbH : ALL.BIZ: Germany

or, more simply ...

info@carl-walther.de

For what it's worth, we've received mixed results from the company in recent months. At one time, a reply would come like clockwork within three to five business days. Recently we've had members report no response at all. But it's worth the effort to at least ask. (Keep in mind that the plant seems to shut down for all of August.)

Good luck -- let us know if you learn anything, either way.

Thanks for the fast reply Searcher.

I have also contacted several sellers in Germany and found one KKJ with the serial number 471xx that was from 1961.

I am now checking with the volunteer curator of the Walther museum for more info on the KKJ. My literature is just basically covering the versions and on RFC I could not dig up much more info.

The question that is really burning in my mind is how it will compare to my Anschütz 54 sporters, my beloved 1422s and rare 1423 Stutzen...

I just got an email from the German Walther collector and he will let me know all important info.

Nice job; you clearly are ahead of the curve on this one. Do keep us posted. And ... how about a photo or two? We always like to see pictures.

I will get it - hopefully - before this week end and will post photos!

Update.

I got the German expert on Walther guns on the phone and he told me that the KKJ was made from about 1953 to 1970. I know that Germany wasn't allowed to make rifled barrels until late 1952. Once I have photos, he can give me more details.

So if 47xxx is from 1961, mine falls sometime in between '53 and '61 ...

Ca1953 built Walther in Ulm again small caliber rifles. The first KKJ had a fixed rear sight, until about 1960, is an adjustable rear sight came about. KKJ Most were sports equipment, and very few hunting rifles. Were introduced from 1970 until the series production was going on there than the first shooting disciplines in Germany by the German Hunting Association. I also abe to my with such a gun collection, as well as the .22 Hornet Repeater. These guns shoot very well. My .22 Hornet has a set trigger.

Carsten,

you probably mean that most KKJ were match rifles, few were what is called a sporter in English, or hunting rifle. With set trigger you probably mean the DST, a term that is also used in America, mainly because of Anschütz rifles.

Did I ever tell you about my 54 Anschütz sporters?

I got my KKJ and am cleaning it right now. It has seen some use but the price was right and I like this handy little rifle!

I will get some photos ready in the next few days.

I cleaned tthe KKJ up and fixed some of its issues and ended up with a nice little rifle. On the photo, the stock appears lighter than is actually is since the lighting conditions were everything but perfect.

Compared to my Anschütz 54 sporters this is a lightweight!

I find the quality not up to a pre-1958 Anschütz 1423 Mannlicher-stocked rifle that I have but much better than most other .22s around. The locking lugs on the bolt and cylinder stop are features that I like to have, even on a rimfire rifle.

A nice touch is that the front sight is the same as the ones from the LP53.

I do not expect a disappointment at the range with this little rifle.
