Happy to lend a hand.

Good day, friend and fellow Walther forum member.

Today, I'd like to take a moment to announce the fact that I'll be lending a hand here at our wonderful forum by acting as an Assistant Moderator, and to help fellow forum members who may be in need of technical assistance with posting photographs and the like. Forum members will find our much-beloved Moderator Searcher451 taking a hiatus from these pages for personal reasons and in his wake, I'm happy to give Milspec a hand with things until his hopeful return. There may be another member accepting this responsibility as well - if he accepts the reins I'm sure he'll let us know soon.

This is an incredible honor, and I must admit some butterflies with being trusted with such responsibilities. Though I'll never be the moderator Searcher is, if anyone has need of help with forum matters or suggestions for improvements, please do not hesitate to send me a note.

Good luck to you and hope there is nothing serious going on with Searcher.

Steve,
As this is a monetized site, I hope you are compensated monetarily for your effort(s) rather than letting those making money off the site expecting you to perform work for slave wages (i.e. no pay).

We, the users, create content here in exchange for a community in which to do so -- so there's solid quid pro quo, there. Moderators do yet more, so I'd expect them to get a cut of the profits in exchange for keeping things smooth, here. Capitalism! Quid pro quo! It's very American!

Reconnected

'Evening friends and forum members. I'm happy to say the new modem just arrived today, securing my new access to the wonders of the digital age. That's why I've more-or-less been away for the past few weeks - it was necessary to escape the regime just south of my new home in the Green Mountain state.

Surreal, not a cent comes my way. It's more of a hobby to me than anything - that with helping out 'round here when I can... kind of like reading a book & catching a few chapters before turning out the light & snuggling in for the night. I'm honored to have been given the keys to this amazing athenŠum of Walther knowledge and am happy to do so here & there, when I have a few minutes of spare time. Keep in mind I'll never be the moderator our beloved "Searcher" Bill was/is; I hardly read through the whole forum on an hourly/daily basis because I don't have a lot of time. I mostly rely on alerts and PM's from folks when things need tidying up.

In fact, Surreal, I suspect you'd make a fine moderator yourself. Wanna lend Doug and I a hand?

Steve and Doug,
While the vote of confidence is appreciated, that's a terrible idea. Let's just say I know that some of my posts occasionally come right up to the edge of what's permissible (it's rare, but it happens), and I wouldn't want the forums or other mods judged on my behavior in such atypical, outlier posts.

Put a different way -- I value my freedom and know that I'd lose some of it as a moderator ... since mods are typically held to a higher standard than end users. I also have an issue with working for free for someone who is making money off a site, as I don't consider that equitable ... and site moderation -is- work.

Thanks, mightycat. Without all of us chipping in, this community wouldn't work as well as it does; Doug and I could never do it alone.
