New PPS 9MM range report

I picked up my new 9mm PPS after renting one at a local range a few weeks ago. Got myself a great price at the Ft Myers gun show, on a BB coded PPS with one each 8rd and 7rd magazines. I also got my first real holster, a Remora with sweat shield. I cleaned and lubed the gun prior to taking it to the range.

Took the gun to the range today, and ran the following thru it:

100 rounds, Winchester FMJ
100 rounds, Federal FMJ
4 rounds Winchester SXT hollow points - old stuff that was lying around
20 rounds Hornady Critical Defense 115gr

I started out running each magazine 1 round shy of capacity. At the end I was filling them up, and even going +1 in the chamber.

Everything worked flawlessly. Not a single issue with any of the ammo. Also did some one-handed shooting both strong hand and weak hand. My wife shot several magazines thru it, as did my 12 year old son.

Very happy so far! Still considering some other holster options for IWB carry, but not certain yet...

Steve

Looks like a nice break-in run at the range. Enjoy (and welcome).

If your looking into IWB holsters. Check into the Theis or Crossbreed Supertuck. You'll never buy another holster again.

Thanks for the comments and welcome.

I have been looking at the Theis, Crossbreed, and the Comp-Tac Minotaur as good options. I want something where I can get the velcro type "behind the belt" clips, as I wear business casual tucked at work which has put the Theis in the back seat since I don't see that option. I also need a good belt, and possibly velcro backing for that. I cannot carry in the building at work anyway, but I want something that is easy to get on and off so that I don't get lazy and not carry.

My wife also fired the PPS when we rented it and she loved it. She also enjoyed shooting it yesterday. However she is still considering some other options yet, as she will likely end up with purse carry in a well designed purpose built pocket book with compartment for the gun, reinforced strap, worn across the body. I am not the biggest fan of that, but would rather her carry that way than not at all, and that is huge progress from where we started in November with the "why would you want to do that" response.

With the pocketbook carry, it opens up the option for bigger/higher capacity firearms. I really would love her to try a PPQ and see how she likes it, since operationally it is basically identical to the PPS.

+ 1 for the Comp-Tac.

I have carried my P7 in it well and just ordered the Kydex for my PPS.

really nice being able to buy one holster for all my guns...saves $.

I was at that same gun show. Crazy cold weekend for SW Florida, but that still didn't stop thousands of people from showing up. I've narrowed down my CCW to the PPS and Kahr CW9. After holding both, it's a wash. The trigger, though, is far superior on the PPS (to me; I could see revolver guys perhaps liking the CW9 better). Glad to read another great write-up on this gun.

Tucker Gunleather makes fine stuff as well for the PPS.

I only got to spend a bit over an hour at the show, but I went on a mission. I asked the big shoot straight booth for a deal on the PPS and we set a price that was OK ($559), but not great. But I wanted the gun, and had limited time. My wife and son continued walking the show while I was waiting a LONG time for the paperwork. My wife called me and they had just seen one in a small booth for $514. I walked over and confirmed that it was a new BB code gun. Also noted they had the cash price at $495 and some change.

Went back to shoot straight and asked them to meet it, or give me my CWFL back so I could buy it elsewhere, as they had not even pulled mine to call it in yet. They reluctantly met it.

I am a happy camper. I LOVE the gun, both shooting it, as well as for carry. I am still going to need to upgrade belt, and probably holster. I like the remora I am using, but frankly think I will want a crossbreed or Comp-tac for long term and better concealment as well as more repeatable carry position. My only remote complaint on the gun is that the trigger did irritate my finger a bit, but not enough to really cause me any issues, and that was 200 rounds worth.

I would have loved to try the Kahr, as it looked good, had good reviews, and felt good in my hand. But I could not shoot it. I shot the PPS on a rental, and my wife and I both loved it. That was all I needed.
