New to the board here, but thought I'd interject here about the ranger t's. I've had my PPS 9mm about a month, and the only hiccup in 200 rds so far has been with some ranger t 147 gr jhps. I had put 150 flawless fmj rounds through the pistol and decided it was time to try some possible carry ammo. Within the first 4 or 5 rds, I had a failure to feed w/ the 147 gr rangers. I racked the slide and the next rd fed fine as did the rest of the 50 rd box. I'm going to shoot another 25 or so of the 147 gr rangers at some point this weekend, and I'll report back the results.

I've never had issues with getting 9mm 124 gr rangers to feed in my glock 19 or 26, but I've also never shot the 147 gr variety until recently. If all goes well w/ the PPS this weekend, I'll probably start carrying it with the 147 gr rangers until I can find a deal on some 50 rd boxes of speer gold dot 124 gr+p. That's my normal choice in a carry rd, but my stock of them is getting low. And my normal resource for them has dried up recently..,

Not sure if you consider this a deal but here's some good ammo... including the 124gr +p Speer GD's.

Good link! I've checked that site out before, but it always seemed like all the 9mm sd ammo was out of stock. I'd love to try some of that hst 147 gr +p. too bad I just bought some sd ammo from sgammo.com. I'm too poor to be able to fund any more ammo this month...

I've been carrying the 147gr HST exclusively for a few years now. I'm also glad I bought a crap load early last year after reading this thread. I typically get it from ATG, but my last batch came from a highly rated dealer on gunbroker.

Update: Just ordered some more Golden Saber 147g to use until I find the 147g HST.
Just rec'd my PPS. Understand its a personal preference but do you notice a diff b/t the 124 vs 147gr HST?

I personally can't tell a difference when shooting (recoil etc).

I think most who prefer the 147gr do so because in it tends to perform better through barriers... Anything from heavy clothing to auto glass (less deflection through windshields for example).

I've also seen chrono data that suggests it loses less velocity in shorter barrels.

For example Speer Gold Dot from a Sig P229 (4.4" barrel) vs Kahr MK9 (3.1" barrel)...

124 gr
P229- 1122
MK9- 1056
= 66fps loss (5.9%)

124gr +P
P229- 1198
MK9- 1124
= 74 fps loss (6.2%)

147gr
P229- 952
MK9- 919
= 33fps loss (3.5%)

in a shooting situation you may win the criminal case but if a civil case is filed you will have to defend yourself and that's money out of pocket

1- not always true
2- how does that relate to the " What is your carry ammunition? " question?

I wonder how many people in a fight for their life think to themselves... "I wish I had a less effective round on the off chance it comes up in court sometime down the road"?
