I use a solid downward "gripping" of the gun before I come out of the holster. I know the "scoop" method is faster in theory (which sounds similar to what you're describing) and is used by many competition shooters (often with open slide competition style holsters which help facilitate the method) ... But getting the perfect solid grip every time is more consistent (and therefore consistently fast for me) and more inline with combat/SD type training I've seen/taken. If you're able to do so with the method you're using... Rock on.

... I've always fumbled my grip and had difficult time getting the consistency I was looking for every time on every draw using any other method. By "fumbled my grip" I'm talking ever so slight deviations from one draw to the next, and the next,etc...

I might be able to scoop and get good hits very fast on one draw and screw the pooch on the next.

I carry for comfort based on the theory that an uncomfortable holster doesn't get used.
Couldn't agree more. Which also ties into the prior discussion...

I carry OWB the majority of the time (whenever possible). Due both to comfort issues and the faster draw and more solid grip it gives me. So when I do wear an IWB holster I'm looking for something as close to that as possible... Probably the reason I like the CC on the Supertuck and prefer the ride of the Comp-Tac hybrid to it as well.

I'm not one to argue with results, it would take a shot timer to really figure out the best method and it would still likely differ person-to-person. I really should get one of those gadgets, but I keep spending that money on ammo and things to use it up in.

I wouldn't call what I do a "scoop" though, it still requires an upward draw. I suppose I focus on pulling the grip into my hand with middle and ring fingers, stabilized by the thumb on the slide, and when the grip is firmly against my palm the thumb sweeps down as the muzzle comes up ... hard to describe, hard to photograph, and probably driven by hand size (mongo), holster selection (I know the CBST will let the pistol "pop" out in a consistent way), and preferred cover garment (a thin camp shirt) that can be swept up with the strong hand ... added to the ability to point-shoot adequately at an 8-9" circle at 10 yards or less.

And that took practice, quite a bit of it. Having a P22 and an airsoft PPS helped keep cost down (both) and let me practice at home (the neighbors really dislike live ammunition practice at home) - and now I just need to do a few magazines worth each range trip to maintain that skill ... totally worth it in the long run.

Where did you get an airsoft pps? This sounds like a worthwhile investment!

It is a crappy spring powered deal ... manual repeater and NOT expensive.

It does fit the holster well, and it has a comparable trigger ... I ran a thread on it, search threads I started

It really is junky ... the slide latch jiggles and locks it open at random, the sights don't (well, didn't have dots, it is too light and is poorly balanced

But it was cheap, and it works great for draw and fire practice, and with the slide latch taped down I was able to test israeli carry (even under favorable conditions it wasted time)

Having a dummy gun is pretty nice, even better if it shoots something as benign as airsoft BBs

Back on to the belt topic.

I agree a good belt is key, but you don't have to kill yourself finding just the right CC compatible belt online or in a LGS.

Get a good, thick leather belt and you're in good shape. The best I've found are at western wear shops. Sears and Tractor Supply can have good ones too. Be smart, don't by some cheap, woven crap belt or a strip of pleather...also, your old Boy Scout belt won't cut it either.

I am not the kind of guy who will "dress for the gun". I love to be comfortable...that means no tags on my shirt, no seams on my socks...you get the picture.

I just received my Comptac kydex shell (Minotaur) for my PPS-9.

I have read threads in the past where people say the gun "disappears" with this or that holster and have never found that to be the case with me.

However, I have to say that the PPS/Minotaur combination does just that... disappears on me, and that is with a 7 round mag!

My friend encouraged me to carry my P7 in the Minotaur and explained that the PPS was not that different in proportion. Well I have to say the decreased weight and slightly smaller proportions of the PPS make a world of difference.

I can get in and out of the sport seats in my car with the gun no problem.

The only thing I: like as much as the belt I carry it on.....Wilderness Instructor 5 stitch.

This is the combanation thats works for me!

Just ordered a Comp Tac CTAC. I live in SW Florida, and it seems this holster is made for hot and humid climates. Looking forward to IWB carry with a tucked in shirt and golf shorts; didn't think it was possible down here . Thanks for everyone on this forum who made the holster search pretty painless.
