Hi all, I went to a show and bought some Magnum Research mags for my .40 PPQ. They also had 12 rd 9mm ones. Does anyone know if they'll fit the PPQ? How about P99? I was going to sell them because the only 9mm I have is a CCP and a 5906. Anyone interested in them?

Great info on where to buy mags.

I currently have two 15-round mags and two 17-round mags but, "how many mags does a PPQ need?" My question really is about rotation and "spring set" (if there really is such a thing). The PPQ help desk said that police recommend rotating mags every three months but, I have read on the web of people leaving fully loaded mags around for a year or more and they worked fine (I suppose that depends on the kind of mag and manufacturer).

Assuming Mec-Gar Mags, I am looking to buy two more each of the 15 and 17 round mags (I like to have all four loaded with 64 rounds at the ready). This way I would do a mass swap-out between "mag group A" and "mag group B" every 3-6 months.

Is this the right approach? How do you guys handle your "mag maintenance"?

Best place to buy PPQ mags??

Leaving mags empty or loaded has no impact on the springs in any way. The only thing that causes wear is the cycling from compressed to uncompressed and vice versa. Aside from any shooting you do the rotation your suggesting will wear them more than just leaving them all loaded. Some have designated mags for range or defense. Some rotate them to spread the use out between them. I run enough ammo through a defensive mag to verify reliability then leave them loaded forever. I have two mags I use just for range.

Blimey, finding PPQ 10rd magazines in 9mm for CA is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Oh, well. I still have a week before I can enjoy the pistol anyways.

I right now have all four mags fully loaded. One's in my gun and one's in my belt attached magazine holder that I got from Alien Gear. The other two are in my gun bag.

I guess I should unload the spares and save the springs in the magazines.

And maybe I should swap them out from time to time to extend their life.

I've been using the same magazine in my gun and at the shooting range most of the time since I've had the gun.

I think that's because I like the ones with the extended handle on the end and that it holds more rounds. 17 rounds vs. 15 round for the magazines with the flat ends on them. I like having 17 round but I also like the smaller magazine that don't print as much when I carry the PPQ concealed. But now that I finally started to buy and wear a fishing shirt over the OWB holster/pistol I don't worry much about the pistol/holster printing as much. I wear the 3XL sizes fishing shirt untucked and unbuttoned and they are loose fitting which hide the gun much better. I dress to carry my gun not the other way around.

Just beware that the PPQ M2 9 MM 4" gun comes with a weak magazine release button spring and the magazines can fall out of the gun by accident. My thumb is not long enough to really accidently press the magazine release button on my pistol unless I really try to. And I keep my right hand thumb pointed at the target and resting on the slide release more than on the magazine release button. I think that there is something in the way that I sit in my truck or the caddy that causes the button to depress and the magazine to fall out into the car seats. I've had this happen twice now while I was wearing the gun in a Stealthgear Flex OWB holster on my hip at 4 O'clock.

I was afraid that I lost the magazine with all the Hornady Critical Duty expensive bullets in them. But I found them both still in my truck and car seats. One magazine fell down on the other side of the center console of my truck and got wedged in between the passenger side seat and the center consol. The other magazine I found laying in the front bench seat of my caddy. I was lucky to notice that the were missing and found them both. I need to get the spring fixed and have a strong spring installed to prevent this accidently magazine releases before I love a $50 magazine with $15 worth of bullets inside it. That would be a killer. Just beware that there is a problem with the magazine dropping out of the gun without a good reason that I can see. Maybe it's the stealth gear holster. I noticed that there is no backing on the holster that covers the magazine release button on the PPQ M2. So it's not really the holster pressing the button. But something else is pushing the button in.

I now double check the end of my gun while I carry it every once in a while to make sure that it's still got the magazine in the gun handle and it's securely in place. I should not have to worry about that. The factory should recall these guns and fix this problem. IMHO. I may just order a stronger spring and do it myself since I saw a video on now to remove the button and the spring and replace it with a stronger spring. Now I just have the find the right spring that works better and fits in the hole under the button.
