Thumbs up PPQ ammunition?

Sponsored Links
I am picking up my new PPQ in .40 S&W tomorrow afternoon!

What would be the best ammunition to start it out with?? And post what type you used on your new PPQ!

Remington, Federal, CCI, Hornady, Winchester?
FMJ, Hollow Points, etc.?

I haven't had any consistent issues with Federal or WWB in 165 or 180 gr in my .40 which is all I've fired thus far. If you haven't read extensively, you may have some FTF, FTE, or Failure to lock after final round within your first around 200 rounds which seems to be on the generous side of a "break in period" we've discovered with these pistols. If I remember correctly, you may want to fully load your magazines for a few days to break them in as well. When mine was new, the magazine didn't seat the rounds well if it wasn't full and would require a light tap on the bottom. Mine shoots better every time I take it out.

I only use reloads. However the PPQ really isn't very picky on ammo, any of the ones you have listed should do fine.

If it were me I would avoid the cheap ammo like Wolf, Blazer Aluminum, Tula etc. Break in use 200 rounds of WWB or equivalent and a box of 50 of your chosen HP ammo.

For HP I like Fiocchi Extrema with the XTP HP, Gold Dots, Remington Golden Sabers and Federal HST in 165 or 180 gr.

Does anyone use reman ammo? Or do you reload your own?
Example: Jack Ross Ammunition - Made in the USA - Wholesale, Large and Small Quantities

i used 250 from freedom munitions their blaster ammo and had no problems whatsoever and i got it in about 3 days from ordering it. Looking at it most of it looked pretty new with very little if any wear on them and for the price it was the cheapest next to jack ross which i plan to try to as soon as i get an email back from them about the wait time.

Just went out to the range yesterday and shot 100 (50 winchester FMJs 180 gr, and 50 Remington FMJs 180gr) flawless rounds! I did keep the magazines fully loaded for about 5 daysso there weren't any FTF. Overall I am extremely happy with the PPQs performance!

I've fired:

Walmart cheapy Federal 115gr
Sellier & Belliot 115gr
American eagle 124gr
Fiochi 124 gr
Gold Dot 124gr +p

Probably some others that I've forgotten.

No issues with any of them.

I noted that you are bringing your .40 home. The ammo I use that works very well for me is Walmart Winchester 165gr 100rd boxes, Federal 180gr 50rd and 100rd boxes, Federal Self Defense 135gr, and Winchester 180gr JHP. I occasionally use Hornady Critical Defense, but I will not recommend the Critical Duty, as it tends to jam. Congrats on your purchase!
