.40 S&W PPQ problems

Took my new PPQ to the range today. The trigger and accuracy are amazing, however, I had about 6 failure to feed jams in 50 rounds. In two of these cases the feed ramp cut into the front of the bullet necessitating the removal of the magazine to clear the malfunction. Now I am wondering if I am the only guy to ever get a jam out of one of these pistols. Any ideas....
Thanks in advance.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Also,

Are these your first 50 rounds through the gun?
Did you clean/oil before use?
Inspect ammo before use?
Did the spent casings that did cycle have any unusual marks after ejecting?

Sorry for the lack of information....this was my first post on this forum. The ammunition was Blazer Brass. I do not remember if they were 165 or 180 grain. This was the first 50 rounds though this gun. The thought has occurred to me that the pistol may just need to be broken in but I have not found anyone else who has had this problem. I must admit that in my excitement I forgot to oil the gun...and forgot to replace the oil bottle I keep in my range bag! I just inspected the casings and nothing looks amiss. I should clarify that my main reason for concern is the the tip of the bullet impacting the leading edge of the feed ramp...not just failing to slide up it into battery....I fail to see how oil or cleaning will alleviate this type of problem. I want to thank everyone for their consideration and advice in advance. I am very happy to have found this forum and I look forward learning from everyone.

Sounds like the mag wasn't lifting them up into position fast enough on those rounds. Break down the mags, clean them, make sure you put them back together correctly and then give it another go. Should be fine.

Pistols have to do a lot of things at exactly the right time to cycle properly and the slightest thing being off can cause a problem.

I had this same exact problem, about 3 FTFs in the first 100 rounds. The round was catching on the extractor, and even left a small dent/mark on the round.

I also noticed that when it happened, the mag was significantly more difficult to get into the gun, and before firing the first round, the mag release would take LOTS of force to get it to release.

I'm not sure if that was related to the problem.

Also, it could be that I wasn't getting the mags seated well enough. I thought I was, but I also wan't just slamming them real hard.

Anyway, I'd love to hear if you figured out the problem. I also hadn't cleaned or oiled mine at all.

It happend to me too. That's why S&W Customer Service replaced mine.

I believe it's related to springs being weak, not feeding the round upwards fast enough for the slide speed and slide speed being too fast.

The magazines that came with the first pistol one had significantly lower spring tension than that of other pistols I have.

I have not tested the replacement PPQ yet.

For me, just .40.

Side note- the followers on my mags are blue. Is that standard for the .40? In other pictures and such online I've only seen red followers.

Replaced the whole thing. New magazines have more tension.
