No PPQ love in California
I am a CA resident and fell in love with the Walther PPQ. In my state, there is a roster of guns that are certified for sale. Guns have to meet a 3-point safety to qualify to be on the list. 1) Loaded chamber indicator 2) firing pin safety 3) magazine disconnect. Needless to say, the Walther PPQ will most likely NOT make the list. Luckily there is a method where you can get certain off roster guns like the PPQ with what they call a single shot exemption or SSE. A certain type of dealer can block the magazine well and use a long barrel to make the gun a certain overall length so it can be registered as a SSE. Once the waiting period is over, the new owner can revert the pistol into it's original form.
This is how I was able to get my Walther PPQ in .40 S&W. Sound insane? It is. The point of this topic is that I was wondering how many PPQ owners out there had to jump through hoops just to get their PPQ like I did. |

Same hoops here. The mag situation has been more of a PITA than the SSE process. TableRockArms out of Oregon is my SSE "go to". Finding the mags first, then blocking them to 10 rds is the more annoying part...

Someone mentioned some 10-rounders were available vai the Baby Eagle magazines - might be worth a look. I'm so glad I don't live in a state like that.

I just hate it for you guys very happy I live in one of the free states. Gun permits take a few days, my CCW took 3 weeks, and now I can walk in and walk out with most anything I want.
Only thing I am having to wait on is my TAX stamps for my SBR AR, and suppressors. |

Magnum Research "Fast Action" magazines are the same as Walther PPQ magazines, except that the baseplate has different inscription. See: Baby Eagle Pistol: Magnum Research
Midway USA briefly had the 9mm 10-round magazines in stock, and I managed to snag two of them. I paid a little less than $30 per magazine. Now, their website states that they will be back in stock in July.

It takes you that long? My dealer is able to handle a firearm purchase for me in about ten minutes. He does not even call it in. He does it over the computer after I fill out the necessary form.

OS, PPQ,
I have a PPQ, live in Bakersfield. I did the SSE to get the gun, had the mags shipped as "rebuild kits", meaning they were pulled apart. I bought some of the Pro Mag 10 round mags which originally sucked, but I've found them to be reliable when you change out the followers and put in the original Walther followers. YMMV. I have the gun on my CCW. PLus, I still have the original 15 round "rebuild kits" for when I leave the state.I have ran about 1000 rounds through teh mags this way with absolutely ZERO problems. Don't you just love the stupid laws this state comes up with? The "safe gun list" has nothing to do with safety. |

I am not sure where you are, but Tracy Rifle and Pistol will work with you to block the magazines as well (or at least they have for others in the past).
Yup, I'm in a CA state of mind too. |
