Which front sight does the PPQ come with??

I seem to shoot high with my new PPQ - around 1.5 inches high at 7 yards.

I am used to shooting SIGs and do not have that problem with them and I basically align the sights and then put the top of the front sight blade on where I want the bullet to hit.

Would there be another front sight for the PPQ that might work better for me??

It is not a big deal but I though I would ask and thanks for any advice.

These pistols were zero'd with a 124gr. load I believe, so a 115gr. or 147gr. should have different points of impact. Both the P99 and PPQ should come from the factory with the #4 front sight. Most night sights for the P99 will mimic the height of the #4 sight. Walther makes taller and shorter sights for it, so you may need to contact them and ask if they can send you a taller sight.

Thanks Balance.

My PPQ came with a number 4 front sight. Offhand do you know if there is a front right available from Walther that is taller than that and what number that would be? I will research Walther documentation to see what I can find.

My Son has a Walther P99 AS. Maybe I can borrow one to try from him.

The last time I read about this was years ago, so please don't blame me if I give you the wrong information here, but I believe there are taller sights, and I believe they are the #5 and #6 sights. I don't know how much of a difference each number makes in the point of impact though, so this may be a good question to ask if you find someone knowledgeable in this subject. You may want to try a search in the P99 section as well to see if there is any information there. I wish I could be of greater help but I don't remember the specifics about the sights.

You have been of great help. Thank you!!

I found this info in the Walther P99 manual. So I just need to try and find a #5 or #6 sight if they exist. My son is going to check his Walther P99 AS case later to see what he has in there.

ELEVATION
Elevation adjustments are made by using front sights of varying height.
Steel Front Sights of varying height are an accessory item.
If the shots group low, use a lower front sight. For high grouping, use a higher one.
The front sights are numbered. The higher the number, the higher the front sight.
Each stage results in a correction of the impact by about 2” (5 cm) over a 25 yards

Cool! I also just found this:

What size front sights come with the P99?

Four front sights come with every P99, and are marked with a single digit on the top-front of the blade. Their heights, measured from the base of the sight to its top, are as follows:
#3 = 4.2mm
#4 = 4.5mm
#5 = 4.8mm
#6 = 5.1mm

Two additional front sight heights exist, as follows:
#1 = 3.6mm
#2 = 3.9mm These additional front sight heights are used by the new Smith & Wesson SW99 chambered in .45 Auto.

From the PPQ Illustrated Parts List, which is in the sticky section:

2627248 Front sight set, polymer (#1-6) M
2697971 Steel Front Sight #3, 3.5mm, PS
2697963
Steel Front Sight #4, 3.8mm, PS
2697980 Steel Front Sight #5, 4.1mm, PS

It looks like you might want to go with the first one, which gives you the full set and might be the same or cheaper than an individual front sight...based on materials costs.

Both the P99 and PPQ come from the factory with the polymer #4 sight.

Both factory #4 sights on my P99 and PPQ are the same height.

Both the front and rear sights of the metal factory night sights on my PPQ now, are lower than the factory polymer sights. The metal front sight on my PPQ is a #4 factory PPS night sight.

If Walther wanted to change the POA or POI, why wouldn't they just use a different numbered sight that they already produce and have in stock (#1, #2, #3, #5, #6), rather than creating a sight of a different height than the P99's #4 sight, and confusing everyone by putting a #4 on it?

The metal #4 sight on my PPQ now, and the polymer #4 sight that my PPQ came with, are a different height. This may be the cause for confusion.

Well I went back to the range today with my new PPQ and I "borrowed" the #5 poly frony sight from my son and that now works perfect for me.

Targets shot at 7 yards.

Second target was shot holding my PPQ with my strong hand only.

Hey Grumpy1,

Good shooting !!! With that #5 front sight, what was your POA: 6:00 hold or combat hold? I was thinking of going right to the #6. Thanks, Bill

Thanks Sarge2011!

I aim with the top of the front sight blade where I want the bullet to go - or at least that is my objective. :D

That would be sight image number 2 as shown in the link below.

Next time I am going to try the large backstrap to see what if any difference that makes for me. I am happy with the medium but am just curious to try the large also.

In Iron Man's review, he mentioned that he owned .40 models of the P99/PPQ. Maybe the .40 models use a different height than the 9mm models.

I know my 9mm P99 made in 1999, and my 9mm PPQ made in 2011 both came with the polymer #4 sight.

Anyone with a .40 PPQ want to check their front sight to see what number is on it?
