Sight Picture 3 is a 'combat sight' picture and is used by many manufacturers e.g. Sig. All my pistols are set up that way and it works well for what I am after, however this is a personal preference and I know many people prefer Sight Picture 1 or 2.

I can't comment on the P99 as I don't have one to hand although does seem a little odd if the P99 and PPQ are set up differently.

I assume that Trijicon typically follow the manufacturers direction, hence Trijicons for Sigs would use Sight Picture 3, Trijicons for PPQ would use Sight Picture 3 etc.

The difference in the front sight & sight picture has been documented on the forum. It's been a while since it's come up, but it has a few times, and the answer was the two were shipping with different front sights.

Neither Trijicon, nor anyone else, is making PPQ sights; they are all P99 sights, which, of course, fit the PPQ.

Well reading all this, I still think I'm going to get the trijicons a try. I like the idea of different tube colors for fast target acquisition in the dark.

I have not seen any of the tritium night sights discussed here advertised as sold separately, front and rear. Does anyone know if that is even done? I suspect not but thought I would ask. For various reasons I would like a Big Dot front and a Trijicon rear. I am well aware that combination may significantly affect POI in the vertical plane, but I have my reasons ....

Guess I answered my own question with a couple of phone calls. Only the OEM's seem to sell their sights separately (front and rear) via Customer Service. In the case of the Trijicon's, the price is $69 + shipping. Might as well buy the set in the marketplace instead for that price. The Big Dots are available separately for $60 + S&H.

Btw, I called Optics Planet to see if the Trijicon's they listed at $85 were in stock. They said they had 40 sets back-ordered and that they had no clue when they might get some. Their exact words were "anytime between now and the end of the year". I also came across several sites online that were obvious Optics Planet sites superficially disguised to look completely independent and different. Kinda sleezy.

There's nothing sleazy about it. They are multiple companies and they run through one point of sale/inventory system, with tweaks made to fit the particular company website.

Take a look at TGScom. They own waltherpistols.com along with a hundred others, glockpistols.com, xdpistols.com, on and on. Every site looks basically the same, with a few tweaks to fit the brand.

Maybe multiple companies but they are not competing. Prices the same and when an item is out of stock at one, it is out of stock at all. You expect me to believe they don't all have the same corporate parent? Those kinds of practices are very anti-competitive.

+1 for XS Big Dot sights Put 'em on my PPQ to get rid of the 3-dots since I loathe that type of sights. Great sights and they use Trijicon tritium vials.

After a lot of additional thought, yeah, that is what I am going to do. I bought the PPQ for home defense and for fun. Not for competition. I am sure that I can learn to become acceptably accurate with the dotted i sight picture with allowances in elevation as a function of range. At least for what I want to use the pistol for. And my eyes are not getting any younger

Thanks for the input folks. I appreciate the help this board provides.
