PP 7.65mm springs - best kind & where to getem'
Sponsored Links
![]() Anyway, here's the question. Does anybody know what's the best spring set to stock up on for the 7.65 PP? Should I get them from S&W, or does anyone have any thoughs on Wolff, or anything else? Below is a link to Wolff's PP springs. Springs for WALTHER PP 7.65mm Semi-Auto Pistols TIA, terracin |

Lots of folks use Wolff springs and swear by them. If it's an S&W-made pistol, why not use OEM parts from ... S&W?

Thank you for your thoughts. I tend to think the same way, ie - go with OEM. However, sometimes after market can be / is better.

It's also true that aftermarket products can introduce issues into the pistol that were never intended by the OEM. I'd check with S&W were it mine. The chances also are good that they'll ship you what you need for free.

As an afterthought I have read from numerous threads here concerning ammunition choices and American Eagle is not used or trusted by many here.
It may be that you just needed to switch ammunition before sending it off to Tom Heller or losing your spring into orbit.....

Thanks for the tips guys. Hmmm..... maybe that's why the American Eagle loads were "available", when there's generally no ammo left on the shelves where I live. One of the three places I tried just said they wouldn't sell me any of their ammo, another didn't have any ammo, and the place I did pick up the American Eagle had next to nothing on the shelves. Maybe I better check with the Walther PP God's to what they frown, and smile upon for ammo.
Tom also said the PP was missing a indicator spring, so one could tell if the chamber was loaded or not. I asked him to give it a thorough inspection, and I'm hoping he did, cause I know nothing about the pistol, but I'm really eager to learn. One thing I did was smooth out the ramp as mentioned. It had some pitting, or what looked like pitting, and it also had a machining pattern throughout the whole ramp which was horizontally oriented. I would suspect it came from the factory way. I have purchased 3 different PP/PPK manuals off ebay in hopes of learning more. I got one of them today, and wasn't too impressed. But I only paid $10 for it delivered. I also got some checkered white plastic Walther grips from some guy on GA, or maybe it was GB for $21 delivery. They atleast had the Walther logo on them. I don't care if they're made in Somalia, they'll do till I find something better at a reasonable price cause I really don't like the black stock ones. I'll post a picture of it when I get it back from Tom. |

Yeah American Eagle = BAD Juju. I found it to be very unreliable, some rounds were over powered, some under powered, some failed to fire at all, and lots of problems ejecting. On a PP and PPK/s that run like a top on other brands. I will never buy that brand again, regardless of how scarce ammo is these days.

By all means, try S&Walther first; their customer service is so good it is embarrassing.
Second, it has been my experience that .32 Walthers will function with rocks, assuming that the rocks are more or less the right size. I run mine on reloads (and having nearly gone crazy trying to run a .380 on reloads....), I was pleasantly surprised at how un-fussy the .32 is. Not to dispute other posters remarks, but anything remotely right in .32 ACP should run in your gun. Let us know how it works out. Moon |

Thanks hmc, I really needed to hear that <<anything remotely right in .32 ACP should run in your gun>> I'm prepared to be passionate about getting the PP in shape. If I get the notion it'll be unreliable, I'll drop it off at the cop shop for disposal. It's a 1940 PP that's been sitting in my closet for 25 yrs with 4 rds in the clip so it could need some serious attention. I will call S&W as suggested here for the springs. Actually I have done this a couple of weeks ago, and actually talked to David with Umarex (an airsoft company - oh, the shame of it), he was helpful, and said they should be up with the Walther stuff by the mid of February.
Tom Heller said Mec-Gar makes the Walther mags btw. I see I can print a manual off the S&W website, but they don't have the PP model listed. Can I use the PPK/PPKS manual?? I also thought I'd add to mention of the ramp in my PP again. The horizontal scoring/finish on the metal seemed to be in the pattern of "figure eights", like below. PS, I'm getting a Mossberg 930 tactical for home defense... Thanks for the help everyone. ![]() - |
