It's a formal police PP, made in 1964 by Walther/Ulm and was used by the Baden-Wuerttemberg police. NW = Nord Württemberg (North Wuerttemberg) and 444 is an invertory number. Proofmarks are: antler = Ulm, eagle/N = proofmark by German authority, 64 = year of proof => 1964. Your gun was refinished by a previous owner. Police PP were always blued.

Duvan87...Welcome to WaltherForums! . To avoid confusion I moved your question and Martin's reply to a separate thread. . A small point: As a general rule I agree that a post war police PP will have a blued original finish. However, at least one member reported that his Danish police surplus PP had an original nickel finish. . Duvan87's PP probably does have a post surplus refinish but it looks very nice indeed... ![]() .

You are right, Milspec. I've had to write: German police.
![]() Take a look on the "washed out" markings after grinding the original finish. It's refinished...

This hopeful speculation crops up every time somebody shows up with a chromed or nickeled police surplus pistol or vet bringback. I don't remember the member's report referred to. But he was probably mistaken. Unless the cancellation stamp was hit ON TOP of the nickel finish (likely exposing a bit of the copper underneath it) the nickel certainly not applied by Walther, and probably not by the police chief either. Once again the parable of the little girl who is tasked to count the number of legs in a room full of people.... The most likely answer is the one seldom chosen. M |

Because the gun 'might' be refinished and so old at 48 years old, obviously is practically worthless. I will help you out and take it off your hands. Send me that piece of crap.

There's no doubt this one is a refinish...the Walther markings have been removed from the left slide although the right side looks pretty good. That's an interesting cancellation stamp too...much nicer than the typical X-out you see on ex ByP PP's. . What I was referring to was an earlier thread where the owner claimed to have a nickel finish Danish PP imported by CDI Swan VT. The box markings stated it was nickel finished when imported. The owner claims he confirmed the PP was Danish surplus and the finish was original. Here's the thread: . Letter sent to Walther across the pond. .

I remain unconvinced. A Walther box with a second label on it --with an importer's or retailer's barcode and "nickel" on it is poor evidence that the gun left the factory that way, especially on a police surplus pistol.
