Walther PPK 9mm Kurz Question

Sponsored Links
I recently acquired a Walther PPK 9mm Kurz pistol from my Grandfather who has fallen ill. It has "Made in W.Germany" on the front portion of the pistol. I do not know too much about the Walther PPk other that is is single/double action and easy to take down and clean. I have been doing some reading, and some posts show it is actually a 380. Is this the case or can I shoot 9mm rounds from it?

(There is no 380 engraved on the pistol)

9mm Kurz = 9mm Short = .380 ACP = .380 Auto = 9x17mm

Your PPK is chambered for the .380 and you should not try to use a full size 9mm (9x19mm) round in it. What is etched into the slide is simply German for "9mm Short", which is another name for the .380 ACP cartridge.

Thanks for clearing that up!

While ammo supplies in general are problematic right now, it may be possible to purchase what we call 'Winchester White Box', somewhat generic ammunition, at WalMart or some gun stores. It does have a somewhat blunted nose; posters, is it a problem? I don't have a PP .380 (mine are smaller calibers...).
What you want is full metal jacketed, round nose, .380 ammunition.
There is some much more expensive, defensive ammo that may or may not run well in your gun.
For the OP, congrats on your find, tho' our sympathy on how you came by the gun.
We'll be happy to help you here if we can.

I've always had good luck with both Winchester white box and Remington green box ammo in my .380 Walthers. But they can be ammo-sensitive at times. As with all things, it's best to give your pistol a good test-drive with whatever sort of ammo you select.

...and when you select select the good (best) ammunition. Don't go down the path of heartache for bargain ammunition.

.
I load WWB .380 flat tip in one of my spare mags for winter carry. It slices through heavy winter clothing without deforming and feeds reliably in my German PPK/S. I'm just glad I bought a case while it was still cheap...

This pretty much sums it all up.

I have shot plenty of box Winchester rounds thru my PPK, with no issues. .380 has been hard to find around here, so I am still testing out various carry ammo, but so far my PPK has shot everything I have out into it.
