Welcome aboard. Maybe like me your grip is too high and your getting slide bite like I did the first time I shot it.

I took that into consideration after my first time firing it, but I am certain my hand is fully clear of the slide. The kick is pushing the rather sharp dovetail into my thumb. After the first 100 rounds, the dovetail is where the skin and blood was. I have noticed this is considerably worse when using a magazine with a standard baseplate, so when I went to the range today, I used only the extended baseplate magazine. Aside from feeling better whilst firing, it also kept the dovetail from breaking the skin, although my thumb still became a bit raw.

The S&W-made pistols don't have the oveall polished finish that the previous models were noted for, thus the sharp edges and your bloody hands. You might want to run a search on the issue and see if you can find some threads where folks have worked on those edges with a variety of products, some more successful than others.
Welcome to the forum; enjoy your time here.

Micho, strongly suspect you are discussing the beavertail , which is a whole different creature than a dovetail or a ducktail or hot tail. We try to keep our wildlife straight here...
![]() Suggest you take Searcher's advice and recontour the edges of the beavertail; it's no sin, is easily enough done with crocus cloth wrapped around a largish (1"?) dowel. Then reblend any damage with 3M cloth...those potscrubber looking things that will replicate the factory brushed finish if you keep the strokes in the same direction. Take care not to get any grit inside the works. Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your time here, and your new pistol. Moon |

I get the same thing from my S&W. Once I get it back from the gunsmith, his carry package ought to solve that problem. It's not the cheapest fix, nor can it be undone, but it's effective.

This is a great forum. There are experts willing to dole out info about everything Walther that are just a question away. Never a bad word or snide remark from anybody. And if there was, Searcher will come and knee-cap them.

since you have a camera.....Unload gun!
Put in your hand in shooting position, take picture....post. Same thing again with the side to rear, take picture...post. If another person is around have them take pictures, while you point with yellow pencil where injury is occuring. Mine has never drawn blood or taken skin. It has Pak wrap grip on it. And I buy XL gloves for hand.
