Greetings all.
I've been wanting a PPK for a couple of years. I found a .380 in a pawn shop in Tulsa yesterday. Turns out it's a 1997 or 98 Interarms (which is what I wanted) and the price was about $100 cheaper than what I've seen on a local board or on Armslist. It had been well used and looked as if it had never been cleaned. I spent most of the evening yesterday cleaning and getting it ready to take to the range. I bought three different brands of ammo to see which shot better. Shame on me for buying some junk. I had no problems at all for the first two mags. I am impressed with the accuracy and how it "feels." However, just after the first shot of the third mag, the hammer stayed in the cocked position. The slide returned correctly and it ejected the spent case. But I cannot get it to de-cock for anything. The hammer is fixed tight; no movement whatsoever. I've been all through the threads for the past two hours looking for an answer, but I didn't find one. What do I do? Is there a fix? (without a gunsmith) Thanks for any advice. |

Metrotps, thanks for the reply and the links. However, I went over "how to disassemble a PPK" for half an hour last night to no avail. The slides are of an older model that has a different config of the hammer assembly access. The spring is tight and there is no "wiggle room". I suspect the culprit is one of the small springs in the area of the lower, just below where the hammer strikes the pin. Of course, I don't know for sure, as I am unable to disassemble it.

I went ahead and compressed the hammer spring even further and was able to remove the hammer strut, allowing the hammer to return. It appears to be functioning correctly, but I'm gonna have to put a couple hundred rounds through it before I have any confidence to carry it.

Took it out to the range this weekend. Performed nicely with 50 or so rounds through it.

Remington ammo of all types has been of variable quality lately IMHO. I would try to get the Winchester White box 100 round packs if .380 cal or better yet a box of Fiocchi or Agulia if .32 ACP or .380ACP. You didn't state what caliber your PPK is and that would help. I have a .22lr PP Sport, .32 PPK, and a .380 PP Walther and I only shoot the above mentioned ammo. Never Remington unless it is 10 years old or better.
