Well, maybe. But all this futzing around with a loaded gun, with endless opportunities to fumble and/or get fingers in the wrong places, is a written invite to an unintended discharge.
It's also probably possible to clear it with a range rod, but that's an even worse idea.
Barring other advice from Smith, shoot it away.

That is not a bad idea, but you still have a round stuck in the chamber. Maybe it could be tapped-out with a dowel from the muzzle end once you get the slide out of the way....if you have the guts to do that. I could remotely see the extractor either pulling out of the rim or breaking if you fire it, but I'd still vote for shooting it out. I'd be willing to bet it will fly right out....BUT...it ain't my gun or my hand. I have shot plenty of "fat" rounds out of revolvers that would not extract, but not a blow-back pistol.

Hey, how about the punch line? How did this work out?

Bottom line

Well...I went with pulling the trigger..round fired fine and ejected OK. I have no idea why it happened but have put 100 rounds through since and had no problems. Thinking about sending it to Walt her with the story but don't know if they'll do anything.

I'm glad it worked out for you. You did what I would have done.

I bet you just had a fat or damaged round. If it had chamber issues, I would expect it to be a repetitive problem and it's had 100 times to do it again and hasn't......yet.

Maybe it's in the thread here somewhere, but I don't recall us ever discussing how long that round had been in the chamber. I never store one with a round in the chamber. Is it possible that round had been in the gun for a long period of time and simply "took root" on it's own.

Glad your back to having fun with it. IMHO I would just clean it well after each trip to the range and enjoy it.
