Found an "older" PPK I think I want...

Several months ago, I stumbled across an older PPK in a gun/pawn shop in a small town south of where I live. It was/is very nice but I didn't want to part with the asking price at the time: $599.00.

I went by there today on a whim to see what they had in general and there it was, the same one I was looking at several months ago. Here's what I can tell you:

1. PPK in BEAUTIFUL shape with (aftermarket) wood grips.
2. .32 caliber...what I'd like to have.
3. Was told that it's a 1962 model, but I don't have the serial number/marking information at the moment for the experts on the board. So, not sure who the importer is supposed to be.
4. Comes with the original box.

The guy remembered me and knows that I'm still interested and offered it for $540, plus tax and background check.

My question is, assuming everything above is true, is that a fair price? If not, what is?

I can possibly call the guy and get the serial number and any other marking information if he'll give it to me over the phone...

Your thoughts and words of wisdom is appreciated!

Thanks...

As with all things, it depends greatly on condition and whether the pistol is mechanically sound. But $540 for a '66 PPK in working order is a good price, all else being equal. We've all seen them advertised for far more.

Thanks Searcher...it looks excellent and looks like it was hardly used (my obsevation). I would assume the mechanicals are good based on the outside condition, but I guess you never know. If I decide to buy, I'll go over through it with him, disassemble, etc.

Also, I intend to shoot this one (although not often) and not keep it for just a collectible.

The guy said it was a '62 model...can you tell me who the importer would be?

I will try to get more details...

Here you'll find a chart, witch MGMike published. If you'll get the serial number, you can square to.
Normally Interarms was the importer, if the PPK was imported new.
Some pics of my '62 PPK w. box and accessories you'll find here.

Martin - are the brown grips stock/standard/correct for the '62?

Yes, the grips are original. They are a little bit marmorate.

Hard to say without pictures, but I'd probably buy it.

If it is in good shape and made in 1962, I'd snag it at that price. Good luck.

You can look in the chamber opening and look for the date of manufacture, as in the attached photo for my '66.

The importer was almost certainly Interarms of Alexandria, VA.

.32 is the most desirable caliber, other than possibly .22rf. Some here will disagree, but especially for a range toy it is hard to beat the .32.
Barring some odd circumstance it should be reliable, accurate and pleasant to shoot. Congrats and let us know how you make out.

Check Wideners for ammo. They're running a great deal on PriviPartisan.
