Need help, failure to stay in single action

Hi. I found a used Manurhin ppk/s with pachmyer grips at a very reasonable price in decent condition. After cleaning and oiling it, I took it to the range for the first time yesterday. Approximately 2 shots per magazine, the next round would feed fine, but the hammer did not stay cocked for single action firing. It would fire fine in double action. This occurred with two different magazines and two different factory loads (pmc ball and golden saber). Otherwise, it fed well and was accurate. Any suggestions to try to remedy this problem? Could it be related to the pachmeyer grips (I did not have any to switch off yesterday)? I once had a ppk/s go into full auto when it pachmeyer grips on.

Thanks

I'd say that you are on to something with a diagnosis that the grips might be at fault; the Pachmeyr grips often are problematic. Start there and see what happens when you switch them out with something that will work consistently.

Zona, First I would throw the pachmeyer grips as far as you can, & then look at the extractor spring. I have had the same problem with 2 of my PPK's . But let Mike tell you what to do, I have just had a bunch if them & do not have Mike's knowledge.

I did replace the extractor spring & it helps. It seems to be a fairly common problem.

Sadly I have found this to be a common problem with manurhin produced guns. I have seen more of a couple of these with the same problem, and it has come down to sear/hammer engagement, usually requiring new parts to be installed. Try everything suggested, and if the problem is not corrected, take it to a Gunsmith. It is a fine little pistol, and it certainly deserves to be repaired

As related to the fact, that Manurhin made every (Manurhin or Walther marked) PP, PPK, PPK/S, PPK/L made between 1952 and 1986 (until 1989 more than 1200000 pieces) I believe, it's negigible...

Maybe rather than being "produced by manurhin" the problem is with one period of time. I have found this problem twice in manurhin pistols the had the magazine heel type catch. I have never seen it on a Walther marked gun. Still you are right, statistically it is non significant. Any ideas on how to correct it?

I put factory grips on from another german PPk/s I had and took it back to the range today and experienced the same problem. Is there a Walther expert gunsmith that the forum recommends sending it? Should I send it Earl?

Thanks,

Before you go to all that trouble, why not just make sure the trigger spring is properly seated in the underside slot of the trigger bar?

I got the chills when I read this.

Adhere to this mans wisdom, zonadrill. Sometimes solutions simply require a good, honest 2nd look.
