Nickel ppk help

Sponsored Links
I was recently at a pawn shop and they had a nickel plated ppk. It had white grips/magextention and the eagle over n proof mark. I have been sufing the web to find a refrence price but i am unable to find a gun that is just like this one. It is in good condition and i was wondering if anyone could help me put a value on this piece.

We'd need to see photos. My guess is that it was plated, which ruins the value of the pistol for collectors. But the only way to tell for sure is to get a look at the thing.

I've seen 2 in the past week for sale. Top dollar for them was $350 (a rediculous price)... that one had the corners all round from buffing, etc. The other was all flaking and chipped and less money. The funny thing was that he said someone probably took it to the chrome shop at the Army motor pool and had it chrome plated.

For the life of me, I can't remember ever even hearing of military equipment that was chrome plated, let alone a gun. (here Sarge, plate these bumpers so I can go on recon patrols in the dark).

Returning GIs chrome-plated everything; it was the thing to do at the time. Lots of the work was done in Germany after the war, in fact. These pistols become shooters, and you can get them in the $300 range, a third or less of what they might be worth otherwise.

Not all all plated WWII PPK's are Bubba's chrome shop jobs. A small number of Walther PP's and PPK's were produced with factory nickle or satin chrome (Verchromt) finishes. Finding one of these would be like hitting the lottery...similar odds for sure...

Amen to that, though I'd like to see a photo of the gun in question -- just in case it's Powerball time.

A buddy has a nickel PPK/s in .22rf; the nickel finish did seem an oddity at the time, tho' I never really pressed him about it. IIRC, it was in great shape and no indication that it had been plated anywhere but the factory.
How uncommon are the nickeled guns? What would an OEM nickel PPK/s .22 be worth?

It is my impression that the chrome plating was often applied to guns that were otherwise in rough shape; the ones I have handled looked like they were cleaned up with a coarse wire wheel before being hooked to the electrodes.

You don't see them around a lot, so the value is ... well, whatever someone would be willing to pay who really wants one. Here's a listing from Simpson's Ltd. that has been kicking around for more than a year, I think:

http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_in...476587d156be20

The asking price is $2,850, which may explain why it's been kicking around for more than a year. This one is in .32 ACP, by the way. I don't know that I've ever seen one offered in .22 caliber.

Wowsers. While I realize that Walther-peddlers aren't shy about asking top dollar, that is dazzling.
I tracked down the guy's phone number; we've kind of been out of touch the last couple years. I'll give him a buzz and see if he knows what he has.
Thnx,
Moon

A nickled German PPK/S .22lr is worth about $1,000. Interarms sold German PPK/S imports with an electroless nickle finish called NiVel. It was a thin coating as opposed to the thicker nickle plating you'll see on S&W revolvers.

The Walther PP in the link Searcher posted is a Verchromt or satin chrome finish. It's a dull grey-white color as opposed to the "bumper chrome" type plating you'll see on many GI bringbacks.
