Buddy has German TPH for sale
Sponsored Links
Gun is fully permitted on Long Island NY. We're trying to figure the best way to sell the piece (auction site, whatever). I don't think he should try and sell it through a dealer for obvious reasons (they take a really big cut... ).I'm going to suggest it be advertised in this forum. If anyone is interested before I do that let me know. Rich |

That's a good heads-up, Rich. Thanks for thinking of the members of the forum. Here's a link to a post from Estate Guns, who was looking for one:
http://www.waltherforums.com/showthread.php?t=11654 The post is from awhile ago, but he still might be interested. Hope your friend has good luck with the sale. Any idea what hes looking to get out of it?

I'll give him a call and ask. What I was going to recommend to him was to check on the various gun sites and see what the current market is doing with model handgun. My problem with him is, he doesn't really know how to use a computer! I think I'm going to try and get the little gun from him so I can take photos (would you buy an expensive handgun without seeing the thing?!?) and post them on the appropriate sites. Thanks for the lead. Rich |

Rich: It's good of you to help him out; that's what friends are for, eh? I might buy a gun without seeing the photos ahead of time IF I trusted the seller and/or the seller's descriptions, and IF a 3-day return policy was attached to the sale. There's at least one seller of high-grade firearms who refuses to post pictures and who apparently does all right, hard as that is to believe in this day and age.
The trick here is to find a recent auction or three where a similar gun has actually sold, which is the only good way to gauge what the true value of the TPH is in the current market. You just don't see many of them offered for sale; and of the ones that you do see on the chopping block, they are as often as not the Interarms version, which doesn't rate in the same category as the original Walther. Finding one with a box and all of the goodies is even more rare, I'd think. A quick check shows that Gunbroker currently lists several Interarms/stainless versions in the $600 to $750 buy-it-now range. You'll see plenty of magazines and holsters and grips advertised for it as well, along with one offer of service (replace the springs, install a custom-made firing pin, etc.) for $249. No German-made guns, however. The GunsAmerica site has four for sale, all Interarms/stainless models, all in the same price range. The German-made TPH with goodies is worth more than the Interarms version with all the goodies. How much more is the issue. Were it mine, I wouldn't sell it. If I were forced to seell it, however, I'd likely put it up for auction and start the bidding somewhere above $1k, just to see what the market would bear. No doubt some folks are out there who have had the TPH on their list for a long time and would bite. I've got a nice German model but, alas, no box or extra mag. I might just have to go to Earl one day and ransom my first-born. ![]() Good luck.

Searcher:
A bunch of us (all in law enforcement) bought either the German TPH or the German PPK back during the 1970s. Somewhere in the forum is the tale of my TPH which went belly up (little piece holding the mainspring in place went flooie [tech talk]) and was recently sent back to M&M for repair. I bought one for my dad, but have since sold it. Anyway, my friend with the TPH just kept her as a safe queen. I'll figure something out for the guy. Rich |

I remember reading of your once-belly-up TPH and its current resurrection -- a nice tale, indeed. The photos you have posted of that gun are quite nice. I'd also wager that your friend's gun is worth a nice chuck of change to a Walther collector looking to add a TPH; I sure wouldn't let it go cheaply.
Keep us posted in what you determine and how it all goes, if you would.

Bought one in the '70's while active LEO, paid about $40 for it. Mine went full auto when I fired it the first time. Sent it for repair & got rid of it when I got it back.
