Yeah, the spring protruding out of the back really isn't a big deal to me. At first I thought maybe it was a problem that could possibly be what wasn't letting the hammer come back completely. After reading all of your guy's posts it sounds like your pk's are acting just like mine. If your hands are small and strong enough you can hold the hammer back a little more and move the slide back and forth and its smooth like butter when the slide don't touch the hammer. I am going to field strip it later tonight and give it a good cleaning and gun slik'n. About the barrel wear I seen a post in here somewhere a guy who polished the whole barrel and it was a SS look. I thought it was very cool and couldn't see the wear on the barrel at all. would the barrel be more prone to rust if I were to take the bluing off?

I checked my wifes last night and it does hang up a little with the hammer back. I actually can see wear on the top of the hammer even. Although mine offers little resistance, but its there. I can even see the back of the slide move up ever so slightly as it comes into contact with the hammer. I can also hold the hammer that last little bit down and then its perfectly smooth. I can rack the slide with the hammer cocked without a problem, no hanging up no catching. Just that slight upward movement on the slide as it heads up and over the hammer. No real grinding or crunching sounds, just metal on metal sliding.
The bluing its a rust preventative, if you remove it you will certainly be more prone to rust. Last edited by hmott3; 01-20-2012 at 11:24 AM. Reason: added a little for clearity. |

Finally got around to stripping it down and cleaning and lubing. No difference at all. The slide will stick back if I don't give it a good rack. I didn't see that any of you had the problem with the slide sticking back. That is the part that really bugs the s*** out of me. Even well oiled and lubed it will stick back. What if I polished or even removed that....less than 8th inch of metal on the hammer to prevent it from having as much contact with the slide? The contact point is not even close to where the hammer strikes the firing pin. Would this hurt any function of the pistol ya think? Just thinkin....

I would call S&W and send it in, they will replace something I have no doubt. It shouldn't stick. Oh I also checked and the spring sticks out the back on her gun too, just a little bit, but it does. If you remove the 8th inch or whatever from the hammer it takes to make it smooth you are probably voiding your warranty. You only get a year, might want to take advantage of it while you have it.
