Wather-Smith: You Need To Get Extractors Right

Sponsored Links
The PK380 is taking an ongoing beating on failures to extract.
This is usually a simple problem, often with a simple solution.
You are installing replacement extractors that eventually slip off rims.

Before you ship a gun, insert a casing under the extractor at the firing position.
If you see more than a hair of clearance between the claw and the rim, take out
the extractor and file a hair off the stop nose. And maybe use a longer pivot pin.
Extractor diagrams

Folks will slam the extractor over rims, partly in malfunction clearing.
That could eventually deform the upper claw (from local bending), even though
the steel is harder. But some bending at the upper part of the claw is fine,
as long as the edge contacting the rim will grab the rim.

You might also consider a waiver to encourage owners to fix this problem.

I just sent an email to Smith about my PK380 nightmare. I dont expect a miracle but I would like to see this made right. At this point I'm thinking "refund". then we can just go our own ways. I won't buy another gun from them and they won't have to help me.

Fully agree - they will NOT respond to an email. You're just wasting your time typing.

Our PK is on its way to them as of today, so we'll see how it goes. Yeah, I don't have a real warm feeling about buying anything more from these guys.

You know, if these guys don't want to invest heavily in the customer service business, then I'd have to suggest that they take a little more time, perhaps create a new department of Quality Control, and quit turning out guns with such crappy workmanship.

Adivce to anyone else reading this: If you want to return your gun, CALL THEM! Don't screw around with email. Make them send you a shipping label via e-mail while your are on the phone with them. They can do that.

If the gun wasn't such a pleasure to shoot, I'd just pitch the darn thing and go buy another Glock.......

Another thought:

CAN WE GET SOMEONE AT WALTHER AMERICA TO READ THESE POSTS?

It would only be beneficial it they actually had a clue what was happening with the people who are spending their hard earned money buying their products.

I still can't believe that they haven't even considered publishing a service bulletin on this gun's problem, let alone a recall.

I left a message with Kate Fredette. I told her that I have lost faith in S&W/Walther and the PK 380. I followed that by telling her that I think it would be best if we just part ways. They keep the gun and just send me a check. I want nothing more to do with S&W/Walther. I would like to be done. I left that voice mail Thursday. I have not gotten a reply( as per usual).

Curious - have you heard anything from your voicemail to Kate?

No response to the voice mail yet. But,I did get a reply to the week + old Email. It stated that She was sorry that CS did not reply to my previous messages. She said they try to get to them within 5 working days. She asked if I still needed a shipping lable. Appearantly she didn't read the email. I clearly said that the gun was in the cue. It couldn't be in the cue if it hadn't shipped. I also said the gun didn't ship until the 8th of April. The gun couldn't have shipped on the 8th of April if I still needed shipping info. I don't think she read the message at all. I was insulted by the three or four sentence email she sent me. The more I think about it ,the angrier I get. I explained a clear break down of their CS department and she offers to ship the gun that they already have. Clearly she has no interest in solving the problem. I left yet enother voice mail message. I followed by responding to her Email. The first sentence was "I am fed up with dealing with your company" . It just goes down hill from there.

Sorry you are still having the issues. How about sending this link directly to Kate's email address? I'll say it again: Kate has always been helpful in previous dealings. When others couldn't or wouldn't deliver, she does. I hope that's the case here.

I sent her the link on Saturday.
As usual with my emails, I asked her not to reply.

I'd rather she was working on the issue, and replies
from industry often have to cleared by a legal department.
