Unusual marks?

Hello,

Let me first say this forum is awesome ... I found the FAQ especially informative.

After doing a bit of research I've come up empty handed so I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on a (potentially) unusual marking I found on my first gen .40 P99. I noticed last time I cleaned it that on the underside of the slide nearest the ejection port the letters "CID" were stamped. Is this normal? Does anyone else have similar markings or know what they mean? I bought the weapon second hand ... I'll get the serial number and hopefully a pic tonight. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks !

On the underside of the slide on my 1st gen 9mm P99, there is a large "1" and "2" closer to the muzzle, and a small "4" and "7" closer to the ejection port.

I assume these were markings put on the slide by Walther when they tested the hardness of the metal in those areas, possibly?

You might want to check here:

It will tell you everything you want to know about the P99, and a lot more besides.

Really? No one else has seen something like this? I still need to check my first gen P99 9mm to see if there are any marks there, I just thought this was kind of weird and was wondering if others had similar experiences.

I reviewed the FAQ prior to posting (and before that, when I got my first P99!).

I guess it's no big deal. I thought someone here might know a bit more about it. It seems odd that an owner would stamp his initials there, or an issuing agency would put a mark there as opposed to on the outside of the slide. If I received a bunch of "it's the factory tester's initials" responses then it would be settled. It struck me as weird and I thought it might strike someone else as weird too. Thanks anyway!

We'll really need pictures to answer it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we're all sitting here going "huh?" but will instantly recognize it in a picture.

My P99 came from "Buds guns" with some Unusual marks on it that I paid full price for which was labeled as a new item but looked as though it could have been a display case item they passed off as new.
