Should I sell?
Hello all. I have two P99 AS handguns in 9mm. One has had about 15 rounds through it and the other is NIB.
My questions: Should I sell the P99's in order to "upgrade" to the PPQ? Do you think the P99 AS will become somewhat of a collector gun, meaning I should hold on to one or both? Lastly, is there really enough difference between the PPQ and the P99 AS to merit getting rid of my P99's? Thanks ahead of time for any responses. |

Well, there are far better bets to make money on than hoping the AS gets cut and becomes sought after enough to make it double in value or something. I fail to see how the queef would be an upgrade but if you prefer a Glock trigger then go right ahead.
In short, go with the trigger you prefer. Why do you have two if you don't even shoot them and are not even a lover of the AS trigger? |

I know I'm in a minority (and probably considered a heretic by some), but I much prefer the trigger of the P99 AS to that of the vaunted PPQ. It is all a matter of what works for you. Only you can answer that question.

It's always hard to say what will someday become collectible but if you look at the P5 as a comparison, I'd say the value might go up from a street price of about $500 now to $700 in a few years but probably cap out. But that's only after the AS is discontinued.

And Rothenfluh, if you're in a minority, I don't want to be in with the popular crowd. I wanted a PPQ SO badly... until I shot one. Nothing wrong with it, but not a P99 AS. I have pistols costing three times what those do but nothing else cracks my everyday carry. It's P99 AS when I'm wearing layers, and P99c AS when I'm not. IMHO, the difference between the two guns is grip texture and trigger, and neither are something I see as an upgrade. In fact, it's a slightly less expensive gun, so besides being a newer model I don't get where it would be an upgrade at all. Mainly, the thing I take away from the OP is that you need to go shooting more! I'm not sure it's not a cardinal sin to own two P99s and only have one magazine down range between the two of them. If you just want a gun to collect, I don't think any production polymer is going to skyrocket in value quickly. Maybe a limited run of something you fancy would be a better choice. |

Thanks again for all the replies. There are some guns I own that don't get shot much or not at all. It sounds like I won't be missing anything by keeping my P99's, especially if accuracy is even between them and the PPQ.

For me, it makes no sense having two P99s. If it were me, I would trade or sell off one and get a PPQ. I have both a PPQ from last year and bought a new P99 AS to replace my first generation from '97 I got rid of. The old one would bite my finger a little when firing, and the new one is superb. I like both the PPQ and the P99 AS and think they are equally excellent. Easily the best polymer 9mm for me. I end up shooting the PPQ the most only because I prefer the grip texture and found I shoot it better. It's also the only gun I have that my wife can knock the center out of the x with so she prefers it over any gun.

While I prefer the PPQ's grip and trigger action, I can't bring myself to say it is an upgrade from the P99, because these are both preferences, and these are the biggest differences between the two IMO. Buy, sell, or keep the ones you prefer to. |

I have long been a firm believer in the simple fact that selling a pistol is bad mojo. Almost every time that I've done in the past, I've tried at some point or another to unring the bell. But ultimately, it's a decision that only you can make.
