My Walther P88

Shown here is my Walther P88. I purchased this thing with box and papers, however, forgot to photo the box and papers. The year of production is 1989 according to the letters "IK."

As with most all P88s, or at least the ones that were finished, that's a beauty. Thanks for taking the time to share an exceptional firearm.

I purchased this pistol back in 2003 and remember the first time at the range with it. The pistol shoots SENSATIONAL! I had to put the pistol down after a few magazines because my body trembled with delight. After I popped my P88 cherry I continued the range session. I left the range that day with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside me!

I have made it my New Year's resolution to not enter 2013 without a Sig P210.

So it begs the question: Which is more accurate a Walther P88 or a Sig P210?

Are there any forum members who own both and can address this question?

I got my P88 pre-owned around 1993 or 1994. It is a well made pistol with a good trigger pull. Its accuracy is excellent.

My P210-4 is actually more of a collectible, only 5,000 of them were ordered by the West German BGS. The quality of the pistols do not compare, the P210 has an amazing finish on the outside and on the inside. The trigger is extremely smooth and I love the ergonomics and how this gun shoots. The mag release and mag capacity make it less desirable for many folks but the P210 is clearly my favorite centerfire handgun and the one that I shoot most currently. It does well with my cast bullets, too.

If you decide to get one, skip the P210 Legend and go for a Swiss made P210-6, not the Eckernförde model, then a SIG Sauer target pistol might be a better choice.

Thank you for the reply and the pics!

What exactly is an Eckernförde model?

SIG is a Swiss company, the P210 was designed and built in Neuhausen/Switzerland. SIG developped also the P220 series and had them built in the Sauer factory in Eckernförde. Since SIG went out of business, the P210 Legend is now built in Eckernförde.

I shot the P210 Legend and while it works well, has some improvements even, I do prefer the old fashioned and traditionally finished model.

Hallo Carsten,

you are right on this one! How is the German dealer's licensing going?

Grüsse,

Andy

Ah, so you recommend skipping the P210 Legend and opting for the original SIG P210? I am currently thinking about buying a Swiss Army model SIG P210.

The Swiss Army model, like the Danish or German P210-4 are handicapped through their fixed sights.

I found that the P210-4 is very ammo sensitive, with different brands you get very different POI. The adjustable sights of the P210-6 will help to offset that. On the other hand, the P210 6 models use some MIM parts with just superficial hardening and cannot be stoned to fit better. This is explained in the link that I attached - but this explanation is in French.

Here is some good info on the P210 and Korth and the phantastic Manurhin MR73 revolvers. Michael Zeleny is on several gun forums and posts about the P210 there.

While I have a Korth, I am still craving for an MR73.
