P88 Serial Number Database?

Guys, really sorry but I tried searching in the forums for a link or other resource on P88 SN's.

Can somebody point me there?

Just saw a pristine condition P88

So I joined this forum looking to get some info.

Where do I find out when this beauty was manufactured based on the SN's?

TIA for any help.

That's a nice-looking P88; thanks for sharing it here. A database detailing when a pistol was made, exactly, might be available from Walther/Germany, if you want to send them a note or email. Sometimes they respond; sometimes they don't. The address is included in the Sticky in the P99 FAQ section, Great Sites for Walther Lovers ...

Without knowing the serial number of your pistol, here are some tidbits from Dieter Marschall's fine book "Walther Pistols Models 1 Through P99," published by Ucross Books in Los Alamos and available online for about $20.

The P88 was produced from January of 1987 into 1992; serial numbers ranged from 001001 at the start of production to 010894 at the end. An experimental series was made in October of 1985 in the serial range of V1170 to V1549, in non-continuous sequence. A pre-production series was made in December 1986 in the serial range of 881226 to 881390.

A couple of other hints: At the start of actual production, from January to December of 1987, the front sight was mounted on the slide via a dove tail. From December of 1987 on, the front sight was made integral with the slide.

Hope that helps a bit. Welcome to the forum; enjoy your time here.

Thanks for that, the SN's on mine are 003211.

Based on this picture here, would you say this is dovetailed or integral?

It's hard to tell from that photo, but it looks from the serial number to be a very early model; most impressive.

Mine is 003650 and the front sight is integral.

Looks like the early round tops had dovetail sights and the later grooved tops had integral sights?

#003067 has dovetail and "II" (`88) date code. I can't help but to wonder at what SN did the change occur. A previous post mentioned cutoff at end of `87 production but based on my SN/date code this isn't entirely accurate.
