It's worth what you'd be willing to pay, certainly. If it was priced at $500, would you buy it? (P.S.: I would, so long as it worked). How about $600? Would you buy it then? (P.P.S.: I would take a good hard look.) How about $650? Would you pay that? (P.P.P.S. ... or maybe it's P.S. III: I would again take a good hard look.) When you get up to $700, it would have to be one hell of a nice example to get me to move, given its finish. Then again, if I was in the mood for a P5 as a carry pistol ...

This is actually a pretty good price analysis....

Okay, guys, pretty good analysis, and I'll see if the seller is amenable to a little wheeling and dealing.
I certainly don't have to have it, but the hardchrome finish made for an appealing looking pistol. Shot my other P5 this evening, and they are sweethearts.
You guys have been a huge help.
Thanks again,
Moon

They do make for an attractive pistol in hardchrome.

Herein, exactly, lies the problem. I was smitten with the looks of the thing.

I can't wait to see pictures of it after you bring it home my friend. Better still when I get to shoot it at Greet & Shoot 4.0 next May!

Okay, the devil made me do it. Got the guy down to $600, went and had a good look as per some things MGMike suggested.
Net is running silly slow right now. More later.

At $600, it should have a home by now. Did the devil make you buy, or just take another look?

Actually, it does have a home by now. As per Mike's suggestions, I field stripped it and had a look at the chamber and the recoil spring pockets; both were in fine order, and it appears that it had been little fired. Whoever did the hardchrome job did it well; rollmarks and edges are sharp and clear, and there's no indication of old pitting.
I took it along to our 'carry gun' league this evening, and shot a 282 (I twitched one or it would have been a 289), and it functioned perfectly, and shot straighter than the road to hell. The left hand ejection gave me a shelling in the booth.
I'll have to talk to my tech expert (aka, my Bride) about posting some pictures. It is a really handsome pistol, and looks better in matte silver than the original black.
Couple questions; any idea where the gun may have come from? It was made in February '83, serial number 032xxx, and imported by pwarms, redm, WA.
As you might guess, I'm a happy, if broke, camper.
Best,
Moon

PWArms was not a commercial Walther importer. That may have been a police trade-in with the marks removed before it was hard chromed.

It's newer than my oldest P5 by about 10,000.
