P22 Black vs Nickel

Hello!

Is there a difference in quality between having the black slide and the nickel slide, or is just a preference of looks?

This is funny, but I can relate. 30 years ago I bought a cheap Jennings J-22 for only $55. I had a choice of a black one or a bright chrome-plated one. I chose the chrome-plated one because I thought the plating might help it hold up better.

They both should come apart in your face equally well upon firing.

Hey believe it or not I still have it, and it's just as reliable as my P22 is.

Thanks. Can someone now tell me how to delete my post so I do not take anymore ridicule as someone new to guns.

There is no such thing as a stupid question. The stupid ones are those who don't ask and simply make their own ASSumptions. Like I said, I myself once thought a different finish would hold up better, back when there was no Internet available to ask such things. Both a P22 and a Jennings use slides made of Zamak alloy, which isn't known for durability. It's basically powdered zinc fused together under heat and pressure, and it has no structural strength whatsoever. I was hoping maybe the chrome plating might reinforce it somewhat compared to the black painted finish that was my other choice, but it makes no difference.

To the OP, I agree no one is aiming at you, some are just reflecting on their experiences with the gun. I actually asked the very same question of Walther regarding my PPK/s once when sending in for repair.
