True that, a new recoil spring might cure the issue. Try stretching the one you have. They are 4 1/4" long when new as I recall and do shorten over time. If they weaken...I don't know. But, the hammer catching in the notch has always been a problem and it occurs just about the same time the breech face is trying to shove a round out of the mag. Usually as the stack goes down, performance goes up. M1911

I cant imagine my recoil spring is an issue. For all intents and purposes, this is a new gun with maybe 700 rounds down range. So, not sure how replacing it with a new one is any different than the one I have in there now. Both would be essentially "new".

I will measure mine and see what it shows. I like this "fix" more than grinding on mine as honestly - those directions are a bit much to follow and overwhelming to a degree.

I'll have to admit that mod does take 30 min even when you know what you are doing. The good news...you don't have to take the pistol apart, only the breech block out of the slide. But you do need to perform the filing accurately and un......pretty like.

Pretty simple really once you take a look at the parts. File a little off the safety bar, a little off the rear of the breech block....these parts are small.

The hammer dragging on the bottom of the breech block and catching in the small gap and hanging up the slide has been an issue from day one with this pistol. re-profiling the hammer face usually cures the problem. If you want to feel the drag created by the hammer just remove the recoil spring and guide rod, reinstall the slide, cock the hammer and then move the slide back and forth across it. I measured it one time. It is a lot of drag. Relatively weak .22 ammo can only compress and cycle so much. M1911
