If I had a broken slide and I wanted one....I'd ask for a Q replacement. Don't know if it is any better but I bet it fits just fine. M1911

Sell them on Ebay for ~ $8.25 and make a couple hundred dollars.

Probably get them considerably cheaper at local hdw stores.
I have tons of O-rings of all sizes. Just curious if it does anything to help anything or not.

I wish they had not made the grip serrations very deep in the Q model because if they hadnt then it would be a little beefier up front for sure.

Got mine back from S&W on Wed. They replaced it with the same style (old) slide that was on it. I put a short bbl on it, the comp was a pain in the ass. Good luck all and thanks for the great info.

I thought about doing the same thing with the rynoring and going to the parts store and just buying a standard O ring. Only problem I found was every O-ring I tried, jammed the gun or made it bind while reloading the next round. I decided to just spend the 10 bucks on the rynoring and it seems to work fine, no binding or jamming I also noticed the rubber seamed a bit softer than a regular O-ring. I think its a Winner and will be buying one for my dads P22.

I expect the trick is in finding just the right size 10 cent O ring. Too large and it will get in the way of stuff. Too small and it will bind in the spring. It appears the one for sale has an inner diameter large enough to float over the spring, a diameter not too large to stop the slide from moving far enough rearward for removal over the rails and the right diameter to match the spring retaining cup under the muzzle. O rings come in metric and English sizes, all we need is the size. M1911

Please give us the inner and outer diameters.

Hey 1917-1911M, do you or anyone else see any possible problems this O-Ring could cause? I just want to be sure.

If it jambs in there sideways it will simply stop the slide from freely cycling. I don't expect one would take the pounding forever and would need replacing. Have never tried one. The P22 is a compact pistol and when you pull the takedown lever down there isn't a whole lot of spare room for pulling the slide far enough rearward to clear the rear of the frame rails. Apparently an O ring will work, how well I don't know but one should offer a little dampening. One 1/4" thick will not allow you to remove the slide because you won't be able to move the slide far enough rearward. You can test exactly how much free play you have from where the slide clears the rails to how much more room there is to fully rearward.

I suppose if someone developed a sure fire buffer that was thicker...the rear of the rails could be filed off a bit....as long as the slide didn't reach that far back when firing or the slide would pop up and off of the pistol. Hurt anything of serious importance on the pistol. I don't think so. M1911

Well, I did call S&W to check on the status of my broken slide and broken guide rod spring. They said they have it, but are running 3 to 4 weeks behind. I sent in on the 6th of Feb. so I guess somewhere around the 6th of March I should get mine back. Mine cracked on the left side of the slide where you chamber the round. I did not take a picture of it, but there is one exactly like it I believe on RimFire Central. I will see if I can get it from here to there or at least tell you where it is. For information purposes only as it is not a 5" barrel and did not break at the end of the slide like I have been seeing.

Broken slide on P22

Well, I called S&W today. Been almost 5 weeks since I sent my P22 in with a cracked slide and broken guide rod spring. According to the guy I talked to they no longer have the old slides (mine is a 2009 model) and that I will probably be sent a new gun with a new warranty for a year. don't know how sending me a new gun works, but anyway he is checking because I am not on the replace gun report, but they no longer stock the slides. According to the guy I talked to anything made before 2010/or 2011 they no longer have slides for. I see this as a real big issue for everyone who has a P22 older than a year or so as of right now. What is going on????

They will need a FFL holder address from you. Your local gun shop will do. They will send the pistol there for you to pick up. I still bet the new slides will fit the old pistols....but I'd take a new pistol just the same. M1911
