OP: do yourself a favor and try to slow down, you just got the gun (or maybe it's on its way). Imaoldfart had a contact named Wolfgang who sells P5 magazines off of GunBroker. I have dealt with him in the past and he is superb to do business with. His prices are usually around the $55.00 dollar mark & minimal shipping. He apparently does not have any to offer right now, but his email is (or was) military@arcor.de
I mention the 'slow down' from experience. Hold off on any additional grips, magazines and holsters (if you were thinking that) until you get the gun, field strip it, lube appropriately and shoot it.
Please remember the old saying 'buy once, cry once'. Don't shortchange your self scrambling to put an entire P5 package together in just one week, and don't scrimp on spending a little more for the original magazines. They are engine that drives the gun.
I hope this did not come off too harsh, as that is not my intention and I would strongly suggest scrolling back through the postings in this sub-forum and the advice/answers contained therein will most likely keep you from making too many costly mistakes.
Yeah, I know. I have a OCD problem that I love to assemble all the parts to make a complete or enhanced version of something. Just really excited about finally getting the P5!
Which eye ,or maybe the better question would be whose eye ? BW,peruse Pilotsteve's P-38 to P-5 magazine conversion sticky that is the way to go . If you already have a P-38 the mags can do double duty . I have 8 that work great in both pistoles . Ayb
You can also look on you tube and view firydeath (I think that is his his name) any way he switched the Mag release to a p-38 type and it is like the original p5 prototype. Anyway look at that and use p38 mags. Also I use a oring at the bottom of the Mag Asa buffer. So far fiery and my self have had no problems, also I have 2900 rnd shot no problem.
What the he'll is an Asa buffer ,oh I see you use an o ring As A buffer to keep from inserting the magazine too far and abrogateing the tolerances . This doesn't make it harder to insert the magazine or keep the latch from catching ? What size and thickness of o ring do you use ? ayb
Okay, I was working on a magazine switch project the other day and had the same issue...needed something to prevent 'over insertion'. I went to Ace Hardware, walked down to the plumbing isle and began looking at ALL the o-rings....walked out with a winner. Actually, I bought all they had.
I have not had a problem with a hang up in a long time. When I first used the Mag switch I just hold the heel release for a second longer, drops away like a champ.
I got o rings from harbor freight. Have enoughfor awhile...if I can only find where I put them....oh well
Anyways, in the video, Eric says the P5 mags are no longer useable AFTER the conversion, why is that? Aren't they the same mag except with notches? They should still work. Now, if we could figure out how to make BOTH P1 and P5 mags work, then we might have something. Because as it stands now, it is like throwing away a key lime pie for a cherry pie.
