Was in Wal Mart this morning.

No 9mm.

No 40 S&W.

No 357 Sig.

No 357mag.

No 38spl.

In fact the only handgun ammo they had was .45 ACP ball in two flavors, Federal Champion and Privi.

Oh, and a 3 box limit.

I didn't buy anything.

It is hard for me to believe that anyone got taken by surprise on the ammo shortage. Maybe many of you are too young to remember the first AWB but I have always had a good supply of ammo and components, even during the 94 AWB.

I used to shoot well over 1,000 rounds per month of .38 Special and 9 Luger for many years and got used to buy primers, powder, and bullets in large quantities. Often together with my shooting buddies to save on shipping and get quantity pricing.

I always aimed at having at least a one year supply for each of my favourite calibres.

Nowadays, I stock lead. Prices will not improve and I have hundreds of pounds of good alloy and primers and powder do not take up a lot of place.

I've managed to find 350 rounds in the past week at non-gouge prices. It's out there, but it is a crapshoot whether Walmart has any as of late. .22lr has been far more elusive...

so.....where's all the ammo?

i'm having a hell of a time trying to find some .22LR ammo. something the P22 will cycle (well, as well as a P22 CAN cycle). like CCI AR-22, Remington golden bullets, Winchester M22, ETC.

anyone have any leads on a source? all the usuals are sold out with no stock in the foreseeable future

Manufacturers are probably too busy trying to fulfill the massive quantities of ammo ordered by the federal government several months ago.

Last night I found one single box of Remington 22 Thunderbolt at my local Wal-Mart. 50 rounds; $2.38 after tax. He said they received over 3,300 boxes only the day before, and they were limiting it to 3 boxes per customer, per day.

I was speaking with the owner at one of my LGSs and he said the centerfire stuff is getting so hard to find that people are also hoarding .22lr ammo so they can still go out and shoot.

I have not looked for ammo since Thanksgiving. I bought a bunch when it was on sale. I've learned over the years to keep an eye on my personal supply. Don't let your supply get too low and buy ammo when the price is right. If you try to buy ammo as you need it, it can get to be a very frustrating game. I hope this madness lets up soon.

In my house Like WilmingtonNC, I keep my supply stocked up. Some people call it hoarding, some call it planning ahead. Bad news to wait until there is a shortage and then start frantically searching for ammo. You will end up not finding what you want or paying big $$$ for crappy ammo.

I was shocked to see that my LGS still had plenty of ammo -- pistol and 22lr's... They were out of .223 and that was what I was after... I did pick up 3 cases of blazer brass -- curious of how they shoot.
