My local Wal-Mart has Winchester PDX-1 9mm 124 grain +P for $16.74/box of 20. Even with sales tax, that comes out to less than $1/round; not bad for premium ammo.

Academy Sports in my area has these for under $25 IIRC for a 50 count box. By all accounts, they are the exact same as the PDX1 except they have a brass colored case instead of silver and no fancy smancy box. Been told, but can't verify, that these are PDX1 loaded for LEO and overruns are made available to the public. My LGS calls the 20 round premium boxes chump boxes, lol.

I was getting ready to restock after my last range visit and I was curious about the rates at Walmart and if it would be just cheaper to buy from them than a online retailer w/S&H.

Ammunition is getting ridiculous, but I don't have the time begin to reload myself. Maybe one day I will buy what I need to reload my own ammo.

I went on ebay, bought the Lee basic handloader kit for $40, a book about reloading from Barnes & Noble for $22, 9mm and .45 ACP die sets from Amazon $60, a couple jugs of powder for $20, a basic scale $20, micrometer I already had (amazingly) 5000 primers, 5000 FMJ bullets and away I went. For as much as I shoot (mainly 9mm) I've saved at least a $900 this summer alone. I'd highly reccomend finding someone who reloads a lot to guide you, but as they say, half the fun of shooting is reloading your own ammo and finding that sweet formula you and your gun likes best. For winter, I'm loading some low velocity .45 ACPs for use in our indoor leagues. I started with basic 115 grain 9mm, then experimented with 124 and 147 grain. It's a learning process, but 1911s wouldn't be fed otherwise...

Although - I just got back from Wally World with a 100 round pack of Federal 9mm for $19.97.

What about more realistic pricing.

Winchester 9, .45 @ 100 box pricing

Remington.45 @350 (?) boxes

Fed/Rem .22lr @ 330 & 500 boxes

12 gauge - oo; 000; target

Maybe the powers to be can set up a sub listing or us to add current listing on ammo pricings of these brands and quantities.

WM (D/FW Texas locations) stopped carrying common handgun caliber ammo last year, liquidated their inventory.
I rolled shopping carts out of 2 locations, grabbed more ammo then I could carry in bags.
Purchased all the 45acp and 9mm Federal Syntech Defense SJHP they had, $7 per 20rd box.

I was just at the local Walmart.
1 lone box of 20 ga. shotgun shells on the shelf. The ammo cabinet is completely bare.
