Navigation problems
I am having problems since joining this forum navigating the site. I have the site bookmarked, it goes to the site quickly but when I select one of the forum headings to look at, it times out and I have to refresh or click on try again. Sometimes it goes right away. I am using Mozilla Firefox ver. 4.0.1 as my browser. I have a cable internet connection with download speed of 19.54mbps and upload of l.06mbps( just checked it with speedtest) It varies some.
I have tried using MS Explorer and it does the same, maybe a little faster. I also tried Firefox with the addon's disabled or safe mode. Didn't seem to help. Any ideas what may be wrong? I do have this problem with some other forum sites but not as bad. Thanks for any suggestions. Tom |

Hi Tom, I'm not sure what can be causing the problem. One suggestion might be trying to use Google Chrome.

Well I downloaded Google Chrome. It works a little better but still has problems and times out with message "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.waltherforums.com". Have no problem going to main page of forum, just going to different titles and sub titles. When Google Chrome works, it's super fast.
Any more ideas? |

I've been using Chrome for a couple of years. No problems recently.

I get this message OCCASSIONALLY for this site. Maybe 3-4 times a week. I suspect it is most likely an issue with the server hosting the site - or some connection along the way on the internet.
I am admin of a gun forum,a nd we are at the mercy of the technical problems of the company that hosts the site. So, I occassionally get the error you are referring to, but not often. |

Well, I think my problem is my computer related and nothing to do with Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. I'm visiting my grandchildren in the Atlanta area and using a IBM Thinkpad and Firefox. It snaps to anything I select on the forum and connection speed is no where near as fast as my home computer.
I beginning to think it may have something to do with my security. I have Charter cable and am using Charter supplied "Security Suite". When I get back home I will try disabling Security Suite and see if that is the problem. Thanks for the suggestions and info. |

Keep us posted on the issue, if you would, retro. This might be a case where others who are experiencing some connection issues can gain a bit of insight and improve their overall access to the forum. Thanks in advance.

Since you particularly stated it does it with all 3 browsers (IE, Firefox, and Chrome) but not when visiting your grandchildren while using their Internet connection, that narrows it down to being either your computer in particular (i.e. the "Security Suite" software, a malware infection, a Windows Firewall setting, or even your Cable/DSL modem). One question for you though, do you connect directly to your Internet source, or do you happen to have a Wireless Router set up?

I connect directly to the modem, hardwired. Disconnecting "Security Suite" did not seem to help. It's hard to tell sometime because it goes guickly to the selected subject but most of the time it times out.
What I don't understand is when I select to go to the forum site, it always goes quickly to the main forum page. It's when I select a subject to look at it most of the time times out. I tried another computer that is also hardwired to the modem but does not have security suite, using AVG, it also has the seems to be the same. It is older slower computer using Windows 2000 as OS. The faster computer is using Windows XP. I do go to other firearm related forums and have no problem navigating. |

So, even another computer, on your network at home, is undergoing the same issues? Is it possible that you have a neighbor/friend/coworker (or possibly take it to work) that you can test with their Internet? I'm starting to think it's your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
