PPKS Grip Problem Solved

I didn't like the feel of the sharp edges on the frame grip of my new PPK/S, so I found a nice piece of Bocote to solve my problem. I increased the width from the stock plastic and cut in finger grooves. I didn't put a finish on them, but instead polished the wood. I carried the edge of the grip to the edge of the frame and it feels great.

That's pretty doggone nifty, especially for those S&W-made PPK owners who are annoyed at the sharp edges but don't have confidence with a Dremel tool (apparently one needs to go to S&W gunsmithing tool to learn to use the Dremel appropriately). Those must be some of the most beautiful grips Iv'e ever seen.
I just love the grain of the wood.
You should be proud of your hard work, I know it took plenty of time.

Please tell me, what is Bocote?

Thanks for the compliment pntool. Bocote is a South American hardwood that is similar to cocobolo, but to me it has much prettier black grain to it. I has a lot of oil content, so it is more difficult to put a polyurithane or other finishes on it, but the good part is that it is hard enough that it can be polished and waxed on a buffing wheel as I did these. When they show any wear, you can simply polish out any scratches or abrasions. Beautiful wood facinates me and all you have to do is cut away any part that does not look like a grip.
