QA Striker Spring Swap Walkthrough

ok here it goes. if you're looking here, you probably want to lighten the trigger pull on your P99 QA. i'll start with the legal BS---i am not a gunsmith. you assume any and all responsibility for doing the swap. it may or may not be legal in your area. i don't know---it's up to you to figure out. there may be other legal ramifications also, and YOU ASSUME ALL LIABILITY IF YOU DO THIS.

we start by removing the clip and triple checking to make sure the gun is UNLOADED.

we then DECOCK the pistol.

we then press the takedown lever and remove the slide from the frame.

with the slide removed, we look at the back of the slide and see a small plastic square on top of the striker cover plate. we press this in with a small screwdriver or punch. slide the plate down a hair so the catch doesn't pop back in.

with our finger holding the decocker in place so it doesn't go flying across the room, we completely remove the striker plate by sliding it out.

we then take the decocking button and spring out (they're connected).

after that's done, we flip the slide over so the bottom is facing up, and slide the striker assembly out of the slide.

i use the metal bar on my drafting table to hook the striker on. i then press the striker spring down as far as i can, and remove the spring cup. it is split in half.

spring cup removed, spring free.

comparison of springs. stock walther on top, stock glock in middle, wolff on bottom. notice polished striker to help spring slide nice.

to reassemble, we put the desired spring on the striker and compress it as far as needed to install spring cups.

spring cups are in, now we slowly release tension to seat the spring on the cups.

we now slide the assembled striker back into the slide.

in these pictures you can see the striker in the proper place. it's hard not to get this right---it can basically only fit one way. notice the black plastic 2/3 tube protruding from the back. this is what we compress with the striker cover plate in the next step.

(here, we hold the decocker in the full-in position.)

the final step is to compress the spring with the striker cover plate, then slide it until the retainer snaps into place. make sure the decocker is in place while you're doing this, or you'll have to remove the cover plate again. i had to LOL.

now pop the slide back onto the frame and check function with a snap-cap in the chamber. also check the decocker for function. if all is good, go test it out at the local range!!!

sorry for the multiple posts, but i can only upload 4 pics at a time

How similar are the AS striker springs? I would love a lighter DA pull. Can such a conversion be done with a AS trigger?
