"Stamped sheet metal grips."

That's the first I knew of that. I bet they get uncomfortable in cold weather.

One more Walther in my collection. The first one I ever had. Picked it up in a gun shop in 1982. It's an AC44 in line, NLS made in January 1944

Very nice guns guys! All be proud to own such interesting pieces of history.

Here's my addition to this thread. P38 used by the Norwegian army (note the norwegian crown on the slide)

Ah, definitely a beauty, Dennis. Thanks for sharing. We don't often see the Norwegians on this side of the pond.

Hi Searcher, Even on this side of the pont you don't see them often.

When the Norwegian army phased out these pistols, they offered them to the shooters and collectors in Norway for a low price. However, there was not much interest and most of the guns were destroyed. If I recall correctly, around ~100-150 pistols were saved this way, of which half ended up deactivated.

Thanks for that insight, Dennis. Seems like a wasted opportunity for a lot of folks. Sure wish I'd had a chance to get one. No deactivation on my part, I'll tell you.

.
Simpson Ltd has a nice selection of post war P38/P1's. Several are in depot pack or Walther boxes and include police, military, and commercial models. They also have three Norwegian models. Definitely worth a look.

I'm surprised Norway bought pistols from a country that invaded them not so long ago. I would have thought that that would have been a sore subject.

This is my P1, a faithful bedside companion. The rosewood grips came from Thailand.
