My first job in 1966 was at McDonalds. AT 17, I earned $1.00 per hour. Ah, the good 'ol days.

Herr Walther Unproven
That same $86 for a PPK in 1960 would be $691.88 today. Adjusted.

$100 in 1968 = $698 today

Mike is correct that inflation is a sobering factor, and why many firearms are such poor long-term investments. Steve is also correct that even knowing that all of these pistols could have been had NIB for such prices (inflated or not) is an awesome concept. I kind of doubt that anybody will be looking at a 2016 price list from Walther/Umarex 48 years from now and wishing for a time machine.

I remember thinking (as a teenager), if I could only make $100 a week.....heck, that's $5,200 a year.....gosh, I'd be rich....how could I even begin to spend all that money. That's a TRUE memory....my, my....how times have changed.

FWIW, I'm 57 and have been around firearms since I was 10. I've been in the automotive business for 30+ years - the last 10 as a dealership consultant for one of the largest software companies in the world.

One thing I've never done is lord my knowledge of auto repairs and dealership operations over those who knew less than I did, like some pompous, know-it-all.

And if something bores me, I generally, as a rule, ignore it without comment.
